Multiple Minds After-School programs
engage young learners in professionally-oriented and hands-on-multimedia projects.
Our students master subject matter, formulate ideas based on research, and develop
communications skills. Our projects are based on state educational standards and enable
students to build their own unique portfolios. These portfolio demonstrate individual
student achievements and evidence of student intellectual growth levels, as well as
fulfill partial requirements for college applications.
The pedagogy of Multipleminds addresses a serious need to inspire, motivate and empower
students through the creative and instructive use of 21st century digital media technologies.
Guided by the theory of Constructivism and the most recent findings on how the human brain
learns, our after-school activities are research oriented, hands on and are designed to
facilitate a differentiated learning process for students. All of our After-school enrichment
projects and activities focus on the needs of each individual student and contextualize
subject matter in a variety of subject areas including science, history, math, social
studies and others.
Students are guided by Multimedia instructors fully trained in inquiry learning and in
the use of Multipleminds proprietary digital media curriculum. The experience enables
students to compete in a global economy where traditional career paths are being
transformed by a world driven by information, and that information is almost exclusively
digital.
Multipleminds after-school enrichment students learn along industry standards, enabling
students to succeed by emulating information-driven professionals. Science and social
science courses guide students in constructing knowledge through applications of the
scientific method, appreciation of statistics, case study, and action-oriented research.
Language arts, visual arts, and communications students build their media articulation
skills as they author, design, and publish fiction and non-fiction in new media formats.
Academics and Real World Challenges
Our students engage in activities enabling them to appreciate subject matter as
transformative academic learners. Subject matter is oriented towards standards and
benchmarks and is connected to local and global issues. Students will find learning
truly relevant, compelling, and empowering.
Peer-to-Peer Learning - Learning programs involve a combination of team work and
individual tasks. Negative peer pressure is transformed into positive peer dialogue.
Students learn through friendly competition, high expectations, respect and recognition
of peer talents.
Industry-oriented digital media technology
Multipleminds Digital media education embodies the product, the artwork, and the process:
the way and means by which the product is created and knowledge constructed. The multimedia
product is the left and right brain expression of hearts and minds, and the creative process,
the integration of tools, skills, visions, and content, and the dynamics of articulation.
Students in our programs use
Microsoft Word®, Microsoft Power-Point®, Adobe Premiere Pro®, After Effects®, Adobe Photoshop®,
Sony Music Studio®, Apple® Final Cut Pro®, and GarageBand®
among others.
Differentiated and Multiple Intelligences
Our learning strategies are grounded in the most recent brain research findings. Multipleminds learning strategies acknowledge differences between analog and digital generations. Digital Natives think nonlinear, non-sequential, interactive, and global. 21st century student interests are drawn into projects that will tap into their unique learning styles, and build on their strengths and prior knowledge, and assist in their weaknesses.
Assessments
There are two types of assessments conducted for each student. First are weekly logs of
student progress written by both teacher and student and based on specific rubrics and
the objectives of the session. A dialogue between student, teacher and a peer concludes in
a final written narrative by both teacher and student indicating student’s strengths and
weaknesses based on the project’s rubrics. Each portfolio will be assessed in terms of subject
mastery and insightfulness, creative and effective
application of digital media technology; and leadership.
